Advice for Lung and Liver cancer

Hi, my mum has just been diagnosed with lung and liver cancer. She is mortified as she is only 61, I'm scared because she fears the worst and she is my best friend. She has been for a biopsy today and has to wait a week for the results, she is complaining of being tired and has pain in her shoulder. She gets upset regularly and I'm left in the dark scared of what the future holds. We haven't been told much by the doctors only to wait until the biopsy results then they can decide the next stage. The doctors have said that they can't operate as it has progressed to much :(. Can it be shrunk & how long will I have her for are all at the top of my mind. I love her so much we are so close it's really shook me to my boots. Any advice would be welcome.

Many thanks for your help.

  • Hello Permy33,

I am so sorry to hear about your mum's recent diagnosis it must have come as a shock to you all. A week's wait for biopsy results can feel like a lifetime and I can imagine it must be really hard for you to feel you are left in the dark at the moment and unable to know what to expect.

Hopefully it won't be long now until you get a bit more clarity and find out what the next stages are going to be. It's a shame the doctors won't be able to operate and I hope you will be given other treatment options when you meet the doctor to discuss the biopsy results.

You've joined the right forum though to talk to others who have also looked after a loved one after a cancer diagnosis - many on here will know exactly how you are feeling at the moment and I hope they will be along soon to share their story with you.

    Best wishes,
