Having Brachytherapy

Has anyone had vaginal Brachytherapy? I was diagnosed with endometrial womb cancer . Stage 1A grade 2. Had a total historectomy . After the surgery even though the cancer hasn't gone to the outer wall . They want to give me internal radiotherapy (Brachytherapy) as i have I lympho vascular invasion . As a precaution they want to give radiation 4 sessions. They didn't check my lympnodes at the time of surgery.  I am worried as I have heard long term side effects are incontinence and bowel incontenance . Has anyone had Brachytherapy and have you had any side effects ?

    Hi Nic,

    I did have lingering "cramps" and my oncologist told me that our bodies will try to regenerate itself, even after radiation and this was likely what I was feeling.  I think I felt it on and off for the first 6 months or so.  Try not to worry about it (easier said than done) and take it one appointment at a time. Let me know how you are doing as you progress through your recovery and healing.

    thanks for getting back to me, that's made me feel a bit better. Knowing that can happen and might not be cancer again. 
     

    I can control it with pain killers but until I have my scan I keep having my freak out moments.

     

    Right after I wrote that msg my oncologist called and she's going to do an exam on Friday, hopefully that will give me some more answers.
