Very scared: Gleason 9 prostate cancer

Hi all

I saw my specialist last week and he informed me that I had level 9 Gleason prostate cancer. I am awaiting a CT scan and then a bone scan. I am in no pain whatsoever at the moment and I consider myself quite fit playing golf 4 times a week and walking with my wife and dog the other days. I am 60 years old and am quite scared for my future. I am not scared of the pain, just not being around for my wife and 2 grown up children.

Can anyone give me hope for optimism as all I have seen about level 9 gleason is not great.

  • Hi gleason 9 is High mine was 8 three years ago what's your psa mine was 1581 that was Feb 16 I'm still around im67 now I was working up to 6 months ago I had to retire to look after my disabled wife I used to work with metal welding and fabrication hope to hear from you soon good luck.

    P.s C was stage 4 it's not curable but I manage.

  • Hi Billy.

Thank you for your quick response.

My PSA is 0.9 which I`m afraid to say is not good with a high gleason score. (according to some research I`ve seen on the net)

The way I`m feeling right now, if they gave me 3 years I`d snap their hands off.

  • Hi the worst thing ever is looking at the Internet. When I went on it told me after my first kemo session I would nead more kemo before a year is up, June will be 3 years they get a lot of things wrong but people believe what they read my psa in Feb this year is1.0 when it gets to 20 I have some more kemo to take it down again. It a never ending circle.

    P.s what is your psa.

If you want to check on me check on billygoat.

  • Hi Billy

You`re absolutely right. It is the worst thing any one in my circumstances can do but I can`t help myself. I know I`m grasping for some optimism but don`t seem to be getting much. I think I will have to rely on my fitness, my age, and the skill of the medical professionals.

I hope that you carry on living a good life and looking after your good lady for a good while yet.

Anybody else out there with a gleason 9 good news story?

  • Hi not really not many men with prostate cancer come online here there are some but there psa is only in the 20s. I have to keep my eye on the wife 24/7 she can't support herself I have to support her we've got wheelchair, lift and things to get her around. Going to hospital. Monday try to find what's wrong with her up to now it's taken nearly 6 months. Do you know where you're cancer has gone to.

  • Hi Billy.

No idea. I am awaiting the CT scan. However my body is relatively pain free just joint pain from arthritis. I am hoping upon hope that it has only spread a little bit but again I am just clinging onto probably false hopes.

  • Hi mine went from prostate to the lymph nodes to the bones (ribs, pelvis, spine) & 1 lung kemo cleared the lung still have it other places.

  • Did you have pain when you were diagnosed? Also what were you like in the period after being diagnosed to the scans and then treatment. I`m normally quite upbeat and smiley. Since my diagnosis on Monday I have been quite withdrawn and morose. Is mine a natural reaction? Were you like that waiting?

  • Hi Billy.

What is a friend request. Is that facebook. I`m not great at social media type issues.

Let me know. I`ll be back later. Me and my wife are going to the cinema this afternoon.
