Thyroid cancer

I found a small lump on my right side of thyroid got biopsies day of the ultrasound and was told they could only tell it was a follicular lump but inconclusive about cancer, but I was told by the radio waves it was giving of it looked like it could be cancer, I was so scared when they said I'd have to have half my thyroid taken away, anyway 4 weeks ago I had it done and wasn't to bad, but I have a follow up appointment this Friday to get my results I gather, if it is cancer will they have to remove the other half or will it be ok as they took the bad half out it was only seemingly 1 and a half cm, the nodule, can any one help me that's being in the same situation please

  • Hi there

I'm not going to be much help I'm afraid but I'm in the same situation. The left hand side of my thyroid was removed last week due to a follicular inconclusive result. I'm a bag of nerves waiting for the results. Please let me know how you get on!

    Good luck and best wishes

  • I know how you feel the wait is terrible and I was so anxious but I got better after my OP and now I'm back all anxious again thinking I'm going to half to have more surgery or has it spread ect. Had my results today which came back as cancer some follicular cancer t1, and was told I had small bits of cancer spread throughout the half the thyroid which they took out, so Ithey having a meeting next week to see if they going to go back and take the other half now or just monitor it, I'd prefer the monitoring but got a funny feeling cause I had small specks of cancer threw the left side of my thyroid there going to want to take the other half out or even iodine treatment which ive seen people get a lot, just going out of my mind now. Anyone being threw anything similar.

  • How did you receive your results? I've got a phone appt next week but I'm sort of thinking that they wouldn't give bad news over the phone

    Best wishes

  • Yeh I think you could be ok, as I think they would take you back in I was given an appointment after getting out after my OP for four weeks later then was told yesterday, but mine was showing up cancerous waves of the ultrasound so I think she thought mine was cancer from the start, hopefully you are ok. Good luck, I've just got to wait and see if I have to have other half out now, or what's next . Really scared.

  • Hello

Am new here. Have biopsy scheduled fur Friday and am feeling pretty scared.

Lump is quite big and I've been feeling really tired and unwell I'm sure it's going to be bad news.....

Your a bit ahead of me on this journey so your posts have helped in a way as I know I'm not alone with these feelings.

Can you tell me what the biopsy was like. .. Was it painful?

  • I found the biopsy to be almost painless and I am a nightmare with pain it was more a strange sensation x

  • I am 6 days post op. My biopsy came back U3 and T3A so went ahead with half my thyroid being taken out. I was told if it's cancer and is just in the lump them they won't need to operate again but if it's in the other tissue they will go back in and take the rest out. Should get my results in 3 weeks. In Scotland you get called in for the results regardless of good or bad news. Which can be frustrating but I suppose it stops you stressing. Glnot sure if it is cancer if we will need chemo or radiotherapy though?

  • Thanks.  Had biopsy and now just waiting 10 to 14 days for results. Trying to just get on with life although scary thoughts keep creeping in!  I see you are in Scotland...me too. I'm Lothians.

  • Hi I was told I had papillary cancer of thyroid I had a 1cm t1, nodule but they said I had small speckales of cancer threw the rest of the half they took out, I was asked by my surgeon if I wanted the other half out and I said no, but then she said ok I'll be having an meeting with specialists on Tuesday to speak about what to do next, do you think cause they found spekles of it on my half they took out, they they will want to take the other half out now regardless, I just wonder why she gave me the option at the app to get the other half out before the meeting, and she also said Barry I've taken other halfs out that half being clear in exactly the same situation as me, so surely I should take the chance with my other half, as today I was told I need to start taking thyroxion excuse the spelling if wrong, because my levels were slightly low, since getting half my thyroid removed, any one being threw anything similar please help me understand. Thanks, and all before finding this lump my thyroid levels were perfect even with the lump on my left side, just really dont understand, and I'm worried if I have the full thing out that I will just be unwell all the time, because I've certainly lost a bit energy lately and feel horrible some days, and this is just with half removed, what would it be like with it all removed, I know you get medication but surely it cant be the same as still having your thyroid. ???

  • Hey I am 4 weeks post op now and feel awful, no energy, pins and needles on my hands, I feel sick and dizzy all of the time. I have docs tomorrow and am going to ask for bloods to be taken as they haven't been checked since December. They didn't even check before surgery .I feel like I am more confused than normal too .If you have cancer speckles throughout your thyroid it's prob best to get it out so it doesn't have any chance to grow and spread. Our you can ask for annual check ups for lumps. I still don't have my results and it's driving me nuts now. I phoned yesterday and they told me he had to ask advice from someone in the Lothians about my case and once he knows he will get back to me and all that had done has made me more concerned
