Newly diagnosed - Breast cancer

Hi I was diagnosed on 6th March with a high grade of dcis and have to have a mastectomy and offered reconstruction.  I have chosen to have a diep as my weight fluctuates quite a lot, all quite daunting and still find it hard to believe that I have cancer but I’m trying to get my head straight....... last week I had breast clinic appts to see how to progress after making my decision but now feel in limbo as the operation I have chosen can’t be done at that hospital and now I am have to wait for my file to be sent on to the other hospital and start again with a new team and surgeon..... I could be waiting up to two weeks just for the first consultation and this is what I’m finding hard ️

    Hi Sharon

    I have a good friend who had exactly the same experience as you. She actually had to wait while she ate everything in sight so she could gain weight to provide enough tissue for the reconstruction. Our local hospital doesn't carry out this op so she had to be referred to another one. Boy was it worth the wait! Her new boob is amazing and matches her other one exactly! She is now 5 years on and has never regretted her decision. The wait was agonising at the time and she thought she would never get there. I say trust your team and the new team. They have your best interests at heart and will have your treatment plan in place before you know it.

    Hi Harvell thanks for replying, luckily I have the weight on me at the moment so that's not a problem lol.... yes does feel like that at the  moment but like you said I know it is in my best interest to wait as they need to now see if I'm suitable etc its just strange the being in 'limbo' bit.

    I have seen someone's diep reconstruction today and it was amazing so hopefully all will work out well :)

    I am so pleased that you have seen someone's reconstruction. It helps to visualise how things will be. I was truly amazed!
