Secondary Liver cancer

Hello, my dad has been diagnosed with secondary Liver cancer which has spread from his Gallbladder. Unfortunately the doctor has told him that there is nothing they can do for him as it is terminal and have given him a short time frame, although they haven't said how long. It has completely left us all in shock as he only started feeling unwell around Christmas time and everything has just moved so quickly.

Has anyone else experienced a case like this? And how quick did things move on once diagnosed?

My dad is 65 and has only retired 1 year ago. Life can be a cruel mistress at times.

  • Hi

my mum ( 54 ) has just been diagnosed with liver cancer ( started in the gall ). She went into hospital 2 weeks ago , ct scan and biopsy found the cancer.

Shes now home and in immense pain , she was told she has cancer over the phone and we are waiting for kings to make contact.

Oramorph is no longer holding her pain at bay and she can barely walk. We don’t even know what stage she is at or what the next steps are.

Anyone else feel like they have a label but nothing else ??

  • Sorry to hear this. Being told over the phone must have been awful. My dad too seems to be in pain but I think he hides it well.

I hope that the hospital get in contact quickly to sit your mum down and explain the details to her. My dad was seen to by a specialist within a week of diagnosis which was a least comforting that he didn't have to wait to long.

I don't think we all fully understand the complexity of what he has, we're just trying to be there for him.

I assume for your mum that the next steps will be to see the specialist and discuss any possible treatment options and the path she can expect to go down.

I hope you and your mum can enjoy the time you have together. And fingers crossed that no one has to suffer in pain or alone.

    Much love.

  • My Dad has recently been diagnosed with secondary Liver Cancer - only been offered one bout of radiotherapy on the original site.

Such a scary and sad time for us all.

    How are you Zaqwsx?

  • Sorry to hear your news. I hope your dad is doing ok with it. It really turns your life upside down. My thoughts are with your family.

Sadly for us my dad passed away within six weeks of me writing my first post. He wasn't in any pain and had his family with him. Everything moved so fast and seems like a blur thinking back to it.

The NHS and all the nurses involved were all lovely people. In such a sad time it was people's kindness I remember the most.

I hope everything goes ok for your dad and the rest of your family. If you have any questions then please feel free to ask as I know it's a very confusing time.

  • So sorry ((hugs)) thank you for replying xx
