Waiting for lumpectomy

I am due to have a lumpectomy in 11 days for stage 3 invasive Ductal carcinoma , I have been told I’ll need radiotherapy after but nothing as yet has been said about chemo, we have been given limited information If i will need it or not, and I am wondering if anyone else has been in this situation. The waiting for the surgery to happen is long and scary and even though I have a really supportive Partner he’s been there every step of the way though me having a heart attack 16 months ago to now being diagnosed with BC I do feel quite lonely and confused about what to expect. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Thanks Beachbabe. You are all so supportive on here. She said she couldn't give a stuff (put politely) what she needs to have done. She'll go through anything as long as it's gone.

I told her that it will be gpne on Friday. Everything else is her insurance for a long and healthy future.

Have started my diary again for her. I find it helps to write my feelings down.

Thanks all for your support. = Irene x

    Hi Irene,

A diary is a great idea. I started one when I was first diagnosed. Sad to say, I haven't kept it up and there are gaps in places, but it is interesting to look back and see where I have come from and, what I've been through.

I found this very cathartic and have also found it useful when asked about previous treatments and doctors. You will be in a better position than your daughter to write everything down. It was at my lowest points that I neglected to keep up to date. I am glad to hear that you are finding writing everything down helpful yourself too.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Irene

I am following your thread and holding my breath for your daughter. She sounds amazing and positive, just like you. Great news that her CT scan was clear. I feel for you too, what a journey. All we want to do is protect our children. You will feel better once you are with her.

    Hi Harvell,

I still can't believe it. I have been walking on Cloud Nine all da todays. My consultant has really been a star. We are so lucky to have the NHS.

    How are you doing now?

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Glad I could help. Your be together tomorrow that’s what counts! Sending you both a big hug x

  • Hi Jolamine

I finished radiotherapy 2 weeks ago, so thankful for our NHS. The side effects are challenging! I have tiny blisters that are sooo itchy, intermittent jabbing pains in the breast and I am constantly tired. All this is normal apparently so I am not worried. I have creams etc but at the moment not much helps. I have resorted to antihistamines at night to relieve the itching so I can get a couple of hours sleep. I am not complaining, I am thankful for everything that has been done.

Bet you wish you hadn't asked now. X

    Hi Harvell,

No, I don't regret asking you at all. I reply to so many posts here, that I can sometimes lose track of time and consequentally, lose tract of what is happening to you.

I am sorry to hear that you are still being challenged by the side-effects. I am glad to hear that you are finding antihistamines at night are helping you to get some sleep. I was absolutely shattered from the time of my diagnosis until I was 6 years into treatment. I could fall asleep anywhere. If I sat to watch TV, I would wake up to see the credits for another programme altogether.

If we went to the theatre, my hubby, was constantly prodding me to wake me up.  Fortunately, the real exhaustion has gone now. I can still feel tired and fall asleep if I've been doing something, but I don't do this nearly as often as I used to.

Have you tried Eurax cream for the itching? I bet that you are relieved to have all your radiotherapy behind you now.

What are the plans for you now that you've finished radiotherapy?

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Irene,

I hope that you enjoy the time with your daughter, despite the circumstances.

Thinking of you all and hope that the surgery goes well.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine

Thanks for the advice, I will try Eurax cream. Anything to help!!! I missed a programme tonight cos I fell asleep. Knowing it's normal helps.
