Just diagnosed

My 84 year old fathe has just been diagnosed with stage 4 squamous cell carcinoma which has spread into his lung his stomach back and neck  he went to the dr in January as he wasn’t eating and felt very tired all the time  He has been told that palliative therapy is the only thing now and we have accepted that but we have been told he may become a quadriplegic or paraplegic if the cancer spreads to his spine. He is blind and now hard of hearing and has no quality of life . My question is what sort of time has he left and is what can he expect in his final days

  • Hi there ..

So sorry your going through this heartbraking time at the moment ... your poor dad ..  unfortunately we can't tell you how long he may have .. wer just people with cancer or caring for someone with cancer... and some hang on and last longer .. some go quickly ... that's why even Drs can only give an average ..

If you call Marie Currie , their numbers on their home page ... they concentrate on terminal patients and their families... write down your questions so you don't forget anything .. I've heard from others they give really good advice and help if needed ...

You sound so amazingly caring. . Think he must be really proud of you ... your not alone ... you can always chat to others on here .. there's a lot at the moment loosing parents ... too many ...

Sending you a vertual hug ... chrissie x
