Radiotherapy what happens next

Hi my mom diagnosed with stage 4 brain tumor. They say it can't be operated on and chemo won't do anything. They are giving radiotherapy but all that will do is keep it from getting any bigger. I just want to know what happens after that. Do they just keep calling her to go back every few months or is there ongoing medication to take afterwards

  • Hello AmyRose,

I am sorry to hear you mum has been diagnosed with a stage 4 brain tumour and it must be hard to learn that it can't be operated on and that she cannot have chemotherapy. I hope her radiotherapy treatment proves effective in preventing the tumour from growing. We have some detailed information on our website on radiotherapy treatment for brain tumours which you can find here it will tell you more about what to expect during and after radiotherapy.

I think it might be worth getting in touch with your mum's medical team and asking them what the next steps will be in your mum's particular circumstances. I am sure they will be able to tell you more about this.

I hope you will also meet others on this forum who have had radiotherapy before for a brain tumour and that they will share their experience with you.

Feel free also to give our cancer nurses a ring on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and they will be able to answer questions you may have on the radiotherapy process.

Best wishes and best of luck to your mum for the start of her treatment. Let us know if you can how she gets on.
