Worried Daughter

Hi, my mom as just been diagnosed with stage 3 throat cancer and stage 1 tongue cancer, shes currently having her teeth removed and a feeding tube put in on friday. we are waiting for a start date for her radiotherapy, which will be for 6 weeks.

so far, my mom as been very brave, however she does feel like its happening to a third person and not herself

she has severe COPD so they ruled out any other treatment.

Neither us know what to expect with the radiation treatment, and im just a little concerned about keeping her spirits up and most importantly keeping her healthy and well.

i have read that some essential oils help with the immune system and relaxation. has anyone used oils as part of their treatment?

any advise would be helpful.

thank you

Rebecca

  • Hi Rebecca,

I am sorry to hear of your mums diagnosis and understand there is a lot to take in and consider. I also sympathise with teeth extractions as I had all my back teeth removed as well. Its because radiotherpy can cause teeth to crumble and can cause compliations therefore the solution is to remove them.

I was diagnosed with throat cancer July last year and since then I have kept a blog, warts and all, to log my journey and also to try and help others.
I will admit tt's not an easy journey, but one with a high success rate of cure so I tend to focus on light at the end of the tunnel.
In terms of essesntail oils I used eucaplytus in a diffuser and found that to be helpful.I have shown a link to my blog which I hope you will find helpful as it outlines my journey and also includes quite a few helpful tips. It will hopefully give you some insight into what to expect with radiotherapy treatment and recovery phase.Remember we are all different in terms of recovery but by and large we all have the same sied effects.

I also started a blog here and its titled "Radiotherapy for Throat Cancer" and under Living with Cancer. There are a few of us in this small unwanted club where we collectively support each other and share tips so please feel free to join us and update as your moms treatment progresses.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help and please keep us posted on how things progress and always happy to chat one to one if you wanted to friend request here in case you found that easier.

    kind regards
    Ian
