Melanoma

Hi - I was diagnosed with Melanoma after having a small mole removed from my back almost 6 years ago. Everything was fine, I declined sentinel lymph node surgery but had wider excision. No cancer cells detected. Got on with my life. In September 2018, I discovered a small lump in my left breast, saw GP, hospital referral, mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy revealed it was my melanoma now spread to my breast. Scans showed no tumours anywhere else. The cancer grew quickly and due to time lapse awaiting MRI on breast prior to surgery - I was advised to start targeted therapy as I have the brav gene and surgery didn't take place.

Tumour shrank within a few days and I am continuing treatment. Emotions and anxiety levels are such a rollercoaster!

  • Hi Bessiiee,

I'm sorry to hear your melanoma returned after so long being free of the disease. I can understand the emotional rollercoaster as mine returned 13 years after my primary was diagnosed. It's good to hear though that the targeted treatment is working. I'm also BRAF positive but, because I've been NED for 9 years I would only be offered it if my melanoma returned. It's certainly like being on a rollercoaster that you want to get off but it will start to become more bearable with time. I will send you a friend request so that, should you wish to chat, you can contact me. Good luck with the treatment & seek out help if your anxiety levels become too much to cope. If you have a Macmillan or Maggies Centre near you they are brilliant for counselling, massage thereapy etc. At my hospital they also have a lady that provides meditation CDs which I find really helpful.

    Best wishes

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma since 2009)
