Worried about my Mum- Biopsy results on Friday.

Hi,

I am hoping that someone can help to put my mind at ease... My mum and I had to go to the Hospital a week ago so that she could have a biopsy done on a lump that has been found in her lung. We were told that we would get the reults in 7-10 days and she has just received a letter informing her that the reults are in and that she has to be at the Hospital at 10 am on Friday morning. The letter tells her to bring a family member or close friend with her! Now I am freaking out. I would like to know if this is standard practice when receiving Biopsy results or if this is only the case when it is bad news. My mum is my whole world and despite me telling her that it is normal practice etc... I am not entirely sure I believe that myself. :( Can anybody offer any insight?

  • Hi I'm not sure if it's normal practice I lost my mum to sclc in August 2018 she was only 60yrs old I hope your mum is gunna be ok and it's nothing to worry about I wish you all the best

  • Hi, it is a worrying time for you both but this is normal procedure as it is difficult for the patient to comprehend everything they are told during the consultation.  Second guessing the results just makes you fear the worst, my husband had his biopsy on the Tuesday and we were called back that Friday so it was not good news, this was April 2017 and we're now nearly two years later and originally we were given a 7% chance of survival. So take deep breaths, calm down and make sure someone goes with Mum.  Good luck. Carol.
