Hopefully it will be low grade, slow growing and nowhere else.

That's what my other two were, the breast cancer had been found by me a few years earlier and my gp at the time dismissed it and it was only after moving house the new gp sent me for investigation. It was grade two and not in the lymph nodes. So fingers crossed for you. x

  • Thankyou  so much just taken the contracts for the CT scan 8.30 am had a little cry this morning but trying to focus x

  • hi unknown

i had been ill for about 6 months and when i started to get breathless i was diagnosed with anemia, because my iron count was so low they thought i must be bleeding inside, no sign of this when i went to the loo, i had a ct scan then a colonography, they found i had a tumor in front of my pancreas i then had a colonoscopy and a biopsy and was told i had bowel cancer, i am going into hospitsl on the 12th feb to have the tumor removed, they say without the operation i would have about 6 months to live, they will take away part of my bowel and i may be left with a stoma bag for life, i have been for the pre-op assessment and they have been really great and will do everything they can to get me through this, i have a severe needle phobia and have not been in hospital since i had my son 32 years ago, i am so scared and stressed at the thought of what will happen.

i never even considered cancer, i thought it was probably an ulcer or IBS.

i wish you all the best for the future

    xx

  • Hi Nexus,

It's hard to say, try not to worry but last August having been told I would wake up with a stoma, I woke up to having had  a right hemicolectomy, high anterior resection and small bowel resection but no stoma.  I have just finished my chemo and managing well on a day to day basis.    It wasn't until I eventually had a colonoscopy that these tumours were revealed; I too assumed it was IBS so I can fully understand the 'shock' you must have felt.

    Good luck for the 12th.

  • Hi crista sorry to hear about cancer for a 3rd time would it be ok if I pick your brain a few times as you seem to have symptoms that I have I will start where it all began 3 years ago in January I got woken by a strange pain in my stomach rushed to toilet had Diarrhea so this happened every 2 weeks woken up at roughly 4am

so so I went to doctor I was passed onto immology clinic to see if I had any allergies as I came out with rashes and hives when it all kicked off and was found with no allergies and the reactions  stopped

for the past year everytime I need to do a poo there is no waiting around it’s a matter of minutes than just feeling like I need to go it’s like I have no power over my bowel I go up to 5 times a day with blood so for the past 2 weeks ave been at doctor and sent away a poo sample which has came back and been told I need to take another one as it’s not very clear

im 25 and very worried as I have 3 young kids one of witch is 4 weeks old

sorry for the long story just was looking for a bit more clarity that I have had so far

    thanks

  • Hello Kevin

My sample that was sent to the lab showed high levels of inflammation and so did a blood sample. A later blood test since showed it had reduced. I do not have any blood when going to the toilet and find I can control my bowels with diet. I started keeping a food diary that highlights triggers.

I have the urgency as you do and have to get to the toilet ASAP.  For me my body needs to get rid of whatever is causing the diarrhoea.

I have had these problems for a number of years and only recently has it got worse and that is why my condition is either IBS or bowel cancer they both have similar symptoms. Hope this helps.

Apart from the need to do another poo test what does your gp think

  • Thanks for the reply

well as I don’t get constipated he told me it couldn’t be ibs I was also taking tablets for that to no avail

1 trigger for me is cheese everytime I was to have macaroni or lasagne I am up during the night

for example last night infact I had a episode of sore stomach and had diarrhoea for about 2 hours as I had a baked

    tattie for my lunch

I can’t see any other explanation for what is happening to my body as I have been tested for allergies and so just feeling like it is cancer as there is no other thing it could be which is Pinot true but my doctor is very vague on what he is saying to me

he asked if it run in the family that’s all just feel like something is being hidden from me

  • Sometimes the tablets do take time to work, I have sometimes had to take them for weeks before the cramping stops.

My food triggers so far are wheat, red meat, onions, garlic, acidic fruits, vinegar, cheese that's soft and hard cheese and ready meals. And they could affect me for days depending on how much of the trigger food I eat, everyone is different.

There is not enough known about IBS, there are no tests to identify the cause and doctors base their disgnosis on symptoms the patient has.

Piles can cause the bleeding and you probably have them after having 3 children. Mine only bleed when my diarrhoea is at its worst and it takes a while for them to heal.

Is your gp going to send you for a scan? Do keep seeing him to find what it is, worrying is the worst.

Just thought IBD is different and doctors take a blood test to identify if you have one of these

It would be useful for you and the doctors to keep a daily diet record

  • Not been referred for a scan yet as waiting on my sample and bloods to come back as 1st ones inconclusive as far as am aware. Yes I was reading regarding ibs which is hard to pin point.

i don’t really feel the need to keep a food diary it may sound stupid but it only triggers if I have melted cheese nothing else I’m a butcher so I do eat a lot of red meat as well but fine with that

thank you for advise much appreciated
