About to start chemotherapy

Hello all,

After being diagnosed just before Christmas, I finally have all the answers today and feel so much better.  I have invasive ductal breast cancer and the tumour is 3.5cm with several lymph nodes affected. It is grade 2 and stage 2 and I am HER2 positive.  I will have 6 rounds of chemotherapy and then a masectomy followed by radiotherapy and hormone therapy.   I have found the uncertainty so difficult to deal with so feel like a weight has been lifted.  I know I have tough times ahead but I know that it could be worse and my prognosis is good so I feel thankful.  I have my initial oncology appointment next Monday and wonder if anyone could tell me what to expect please.

Much appreciated.

  • Hi there Julie... and welcome to our little chat room ...

I'm a breast cancer lass too .. I had a grade three and masectomy July 2017 ... from what I remember .. I couldn't remember anything much, although I remember nodding, like I did .. luckily, my daughter in law was with me, and took a pen and paper and wrote everything down .. so gratefull she'd come with me ..

They will probly tell you your plan for treatment etc .. but remember to write any questions down befor you go ... anything you don't understand, ask them to make it clearer ... cancer teams don't always work the same ... but what I can say looking back, is the scariest time is waiting for diagnosis and treatment to start .. the masectomy was not half as painful as I'd imagined ... and once I'd got my head round it, and got those scary emotions out .. got onto this rollercoaster cancer ride ... held on tight .. looked round, and realised there was loads of us on that same ride ..

Together, well knock that cancer right down the road wer on .. so join our amazing breast cancer lasses on here .. cancer had better watch out, wer comming for it .. any time you want a chat, you'll find someone here ... Chrissie xx
