Have you been allocated a breast Care Nurse yet? If so, she is the person to phone. When you start treatment will depend on the type and grade of breast cancer you have, your age and also on the state of your own general health.

Some people have surgery first and then treatment. If the tumour is fairly large, the doctors sometimes use chemo to try and shrink the lesion first and do the surgery after that stops. Please ask your consultant next Wednesday, as s/he is in the best position to know all these other factors and, will have already discussed your case with his/her MDT (multidisciplinary team), to decide upon your treatment.

Do you have a long history of breast cancer in the family? I hope that you get good news on Wednesday.

Hi,

I am starting with hormone inhibitors to shrink the cancer before a mastectomy or lumpectomy so that is another option. I was started on these the same day I got the results of the biopsy. I then had a CT scan and MRI and got the results 2 weeks later. It was agreed I would carry on with the pills for about 9 months to shrink the tumour. That was before Christmas. Seeing the specialist on 15th and waiting for an appointment with the oncologist. Every treatment is different depending on type, stage etc.

Thank you. I asked my consultant today but he couldn't tell me. He told me the speak to the oncologist when I go to discuss my options for chemo x

I hope that your consultation today went well. I am surprised that your surgeon, declined to tell you when your treatment would start and what it would entail, as he would usually discuss this with his MDT (multidisciplinary team), before he saw you today.. Did he tell you the results of your Oncotype test?

Have you been given an appointment to see the oncologist yet? You shouldn't have to wait long for this.

I am sorry that you are still playing the waiting game, as this is always so stressful and, I'm sure that you expected to hear everything today. What a disappointment.

Yes I have my results. My score was 26 and therefore they told me I need chemo. Not the result a really wanted. I am now waiting for an appt to see the Oncologist. I think he refrained from telling me because he wants the oncologist to discuss it fully with me without his influence as he is not the progression in that area. He didn't actually say that but that was what I thought from the way he spoke. I'm hoping the appt will not be more than 2 weeks but the waiting is a killer. It messes with your head.
