Prepectoral implant based reconstruction for DCIS

I had a prepectoral implant-based breast reconstruction in November 2018. I had DCIS which I only found out following a routine mamomgram. It was a massive shock but it has been easier than I thought.

If anyone who is going through this wants to talk  I will be happy to help.

  • Hello niniana and welcome to the forum,

Thank you for sharing your story. Very nice of you to offer to help others who are going through this and want to talk. I will certainly bear you in mind if I see any other member here who has been diagnosed with DCIS and is looking to talk to someone else who has had or will be having a prepectoral implant-based breast reconstruction.

I am pleased to hear you are doing well and that it has been easier than expected. I am sure your experience will give hope and courage to many who are currently going through the same thing.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi niniana

Thanks for the offer of sharing your experience.  I am 40 was diagnosed with DCIS a few weeks ago and have to have a mastectomy. I have been offered the standard implants for reconstruction, placed under the pectoral muscle, or to have a TUG reconstruction from the top of my thigh. I think because I have a very physical job, 4 dogs and do 4-5 Jazzercise classes a week, they have also offered me the prepectoral implant, I have agreed to this and am having the op on 20th May. What can you tell me about your op, how did you feel after, how long before you were driving, exercising, working....generally how is it going for you?

    Thanks so much
