Hi im 45 and had a lumpectomy and node clearance last week. All went very well and the only pain i suffer now is from the node clearance which is getting me down as can't drive at the moment. I also received a breast reduction and lift
Hi Deiwea,
Welcome to our forum, although I'm sorry for the reason that has brought you here.
I am glad to hear that you have already had your lumpectomy and lymph node clearance, but sorry to hear that you are unable to drive. This is usually the case until about 6 weeks after surgery.
It won't be all that long until you are back to your old self. Do you have any plans for further treatment?
Do please keep in touch and let us know how you are getting on. We are always here for you.
Kind regards,

Thank you very much. I am starting chemo in about a month (18 weeks) followed by radiotherapy. I am petrified about putting weight on as I've suffered from bulimia in the past and already put about 9lbs on as havent been exercising. Desperate to get back to the gym and feel really fed up. I know that this is nothing if i am able to be kept alive but finding it difficult to deal with.
Hi there!! I had lumpectomy and sentinal node removed 2 weeks ago. This was for stage 1 bc also. I am still a bit sore especially under arm where they took node. I have my results January 9th!! Xx
Hi, I’m glad your operation went well, I’m very frightened for mine , let me know how you get on with your results
Hi Deiwea,
I put on a lot of weight and was too tired to do any exercise at first.
I eventualy got my GP to refer me to a class for people recovering from illness. This involved gentle exercise. The class was free, which was a bonus.
As I became a little fitter I joined another class run by the NHS. This was called 'Weigh to go'. It too was free for the first 10 weeks. After that I continued to attend, paying £2.50 a class. This involved getting weighed every week and getting my waist measured every other week. We would then discuss food and eating habits. There is a different topic each week. After that we have an exercise class for about an hour.
I also joined another exercise class another day of the week and, have managed to lose 5 stones. My husband, who has heart failure and was too heavy, attended these classes with me and, has lost 4 stones.
I wouldn't worry about your weight until your treatment has stopped and you feel well enough to exercise, but I can highly recommend it when you are well enough. I have had 2 bouts of cancer in the past 9 years and didn't feel up to exercise until 2 years ago.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
Hi Feelingscared,
You will probably always be a little tender where they removed the node. I had mine removed 9 years ago and am still aware of the area.
I hope that your results are good on 9th January.
Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
Hi Anxiouslady,
I was very scared before my lumpectomy too, but it was really very straightforward, so nothing to worry about.
I hope that all goes well for you on 3rd January and shall be thinking of you then.
Do please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
