Tongue cancer

Hi, I’m 37 and I have been diagnosed with tongue cancer of squamous cell on base of tongue. I’m a non smoker and only drink socially. I got to have a operation to remove the tumour, and have my tongue reconstructed from my wrist. Also got to have some nodes removed from my left side of neck. I go in on the 7th January for the op. I’m really scared and just don’t know what to expect on my recovery. I have a 6 year old son and im a single mother. But I do have so much support from my family and friends. I just hope I recover quickly and can put all this behind me. Please anyone else been through this?

  • Hi Joanne81; welcome to the forum although I am sorry that you have been brought here by your tongue cancer.  I have no personal experience of tongue cancer but I looked through the forum  and found there are others who have posted about this in recent months.    In the blue banner above your post click on the words Search Forum; a box will open up and you can type in the words Tongue Cancer.  You then get a list of posts about tongue cancer with the dates when they were posted.  Take a read and you can contact anyone you choose.  If you have any problems come back to me.  Best wishes in your treatment.  Annie

  • Hi Joanne,

i went through a similar experience in 2016. I was diagnosed at 27, a non smoker and don’t drink.

i hope the operation went well. It is a long road to recovery but you do gradually start to feel normal again. The journey is different for everyone but if you have any questions I’ll try my best to answer them x
