Help please with diagnosis

Hello

my mum’s been diagnosed with NSCLC adenocarcinoma. The tumour is contained in the right lung but has spread to the lung lining. Am I correct in thinking this automatically makes it stage 4? My mum didn’t want to know prognosis today so they only told her the diagnosis, not the staging.

They have said it is not operable or curable but have offered immunotherapy - does anyone have any experience with this? In particular pembrolizumab which is the kind she’s eligible for.

Any my advice or experience gratefully accepted. Feeling alone and scared in this.

Thanks so much.

  • Hi tinywobble,

I noticed no-one had replied to your post yet so I just wanted to stop by and give you our cancer nurses telephone number as they will be in the best position to help with your query about the staging of your mum's diagnosis. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m (except bank holidays) on 0808 800 4040.

If you're able to get your mum's permission you can discuss her prognosis without her being there, so do have a chat with her to see if she is happy for you to talk with her medical team in private.

I also wanted to connect you with [@missusb]‍ and [@SheTing]‍ as they have had pembrolizumab so fingers crossed they'll stop by when they can to share their experiences of this with you.

I hope this helps tinywobble and wish your mum all the best with her treatment.

    Best wishes to you both,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
