Hi, my Dad, who is 66, was told on Monday he has an aggressive brain tumour (in their opinion following MRI scans). He's only displayed symptoms over the last few weeks, although Mum thinks it may have been as far back as August. No seizures or headaches, but problems with memory, names, dates and math. They have booked him in tomorrow for a biopsy. Following this, I believe the appointment to discuss the results might not happen for a couple of weeks. The Neurosurgeon we saw and who will be performing the biopsy, said in his opinion the tumour could not be operated on and that it was likely to be one of two types of tumour; either a Malignant Glioma or a Lymphoma. He said either the Oncology Cancer Specialist or the Blood Hematologist would then see Dad following the biopsy and recommend a course of treatment, which would either be Radiotherapy or Radiotherapy with Chemotherapy. Will Dad need to see the Neurosurgeon first for the results of the biopsy? I'm worried about all the waiting - could it be that he won't receive any treatment for up to three or four weeks yet and what if that's too late if it's an aggressive tumour? Dad does have private healthcare - should we be seeking a second opinion and going down the private route in order to speed things up or do we stick with the NHS who have been amazing so far?
Thanks
Lisa
