Stage 4 lung cancer

My 71 year old father has just been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and I’m feeling shocked and overwhelmed. He doesn’t start chemotherapy treatment till three weeks time and they haven’t decide what type yet but have ruled out radiation. I want to transfer him to xxx hospital as it’s meant to be the best for cancer treatment but I’m being told it will cause delays. I don’t know what to do or what is going to happen and hate just sitting here waiting so would be grateful if anyone out there can give useful advice or experience on treatments etc.

  • Hi Oz,

I am not a doctor and don't have any experience with treatments for lung cancer.  I just wanted to say I am sorry to hear about your father. Also, who is telling you transferring him to a different hospital would cause delays? If it is not the hospital you want to send him to, then I would check with them on the timeline.  Also, does your Dad have a prmary care doctor that can give an opinion? Just some things to consider. Please don't try to take responsibility for all the decisions, that isn't fair to do to yourself.  If you have siblings, what is their opinion, etc..

I wish you well and please let us know how you and your Dad are getting on.

  • Thanks for the support Laura. I’m going to look into the timelines like you said and hopefully get a clearer answer.
