My journey with Ewing’s Sarcoma Cancer

I have just been diagnosed with Ewing’s , age 31, in my pelvis. Was told it was hard to operate on so they are going to use chemotherapy first and go from there. Probably radiotherapy after that.

Can anyone help me out on anything to do with this?

I have just got home after my first session of 72 hours on a chemotherapy drip in hospital and this is my first week home.

my taste isn’t the best and im suffering from ache style spots at the momemt.

  • Hello MarkyN,

I am sorry to hear you have just been diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma. I hope you are feeling ok on your first week at home. Well done for getting through the first session of chemotherapy - 72 hours on a drip that must have been pretty exhausting!

I am sure you will hear from some of our members experiences after chemotherapy and about the side effects they experienced themselves. It can help to talk to others who have been through this before. We have some information on our website about chemotherapy which you can find here and you can find out more about side effects that are often experienced here.

Feel free to give our nurses a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and they will be happy to answer any questions you may have on this.

I hope you are resting well at home and that your taste improves soon. I also hope your spots get better.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi, thanks for getting back to me!

Unfortunately I’m back in hospital due to a high temperature and been told it was a viral infection due to my white blood cells at a complete zero. So my chemotherapy definitely had the better of me this first time around. Hopefully it gets sorted soon.

thanks for your advice and I’ll get looking into the links you have put up

  • Oh poor you MarkyN I do hope you feel better soon I was sorry to read you were back in hospital and that your white blood cells are at a complete zero. I am sure you are being looked after well in hospital and hopefully this will be sorted soon.

We're all here for you whenever you need a chat - and as I mentioned in my post above there is also our nurse helpline on 0808 800 4040 if you want to ask them any question.

Get well soon MarkyN and hopefully you won't have to stay in hospital too long.

  • How are you doing? My 19 year old son has just been diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma. He’s about to start his second round of chemo. His, too, is in his pelvis.

  • Hi.

im now on my 5th cycle of VIDE Chemotherapy when I go in this Monday, 11th March.

The sessions are long, I feel really down, tired, and my emotions are all over the place when I get out of hospital. 3-5 days of feeling awful then it’s like something happens and I feel fine.

    How is your some coping?

    im in Manchester.

Please message me if you want to talk about anything. Drop me a private message. You or your son!

stay positive! It’s most certain helps

  • Well that’s number 5 over it. Been in for some Radiotherapy talk today. That looks like the way it’s going next. Scans etc this Monday afternoon to get me rigged up for the lasers. Then chemotherapy number 6 thena few weeks, maybe 2/3 then radiotherapy time

  • Hi there are 3or4 people on this site with ewings sarcoma have a look you can help each other.

  • Session 6 out of 6 of VIDE finishing tomorrow. Then been told I’ll be having radiotherapy for 6 weeks Mon - Fri while also having another chemotherapy treatment. VAI OR VIA I think it was called.

Not 100% sure on that one

hope your doing well, keep going

  • I got 9 more Radiotherapy sessions as of today and I’m done for that part of the treatment then.

Onto the last part of Chemotherapy which is VAI I think. 6 sessions of that. Then MAYBE 10 sessions of radiotherapy in my lungs to finish it off, just to make sure.

How you getting on with it all?

  • Oh wow! That’s heavy man. Sorry to hear about it!

VIDE was very heavy treatment for me, 3 - 5 days in Hospital for treatment every 3 weeks. The radiotherapy is fairly easy going compared to the Chemotherapy. Am currently having VAI chemotherapy too to finish off the course of treatment.

where in the country are you being treated?
