Breast cancer and GP

I have just been diagnosed with breast cancer  and I am awaiting results from scans etc. My consultant has written to my GP explaining the diagnosis and asking that the hormone treatment I am on be continued indefinitely. I get my results and treatment plan on Thursday.

Would it be reasonable for me to visit the GP on Monday just to discuss things with him and ask about the continuation of the medication. Two GP's over the years misdiagnosed my lump but I do not want to apportion blame. What is done is done but I wonder if they maybe can help me get through this. How would they feel about tranquilisers for example?

  • Hello Dragonfly46,

I think there would be no harm at all in visiting your GP and discussing your medication with him as well as asking any questions you may have at the moment. I am so sorry to hear that it took a long time for you to be diagnosed but I think you are doing the right thing in not dwelling on what happened in the past and focusing now on getting through this as you said.

Best of luck for Thursday. Let us know if you get a chance what the results show and what treatment plan has been agreed. We'll be thinking of you!
