Lung Biopsy - Why would this be?

My dad had a CT scan which they were sure was cancer and went for a PET scan last week. His follow up is next Weds and now have called today and said he needs a lung biopsy on Thursday.

What would they be doing in the biopsy? Checking what it is? I am really worrying now - does this mean its worse news than we initially thought (they were talking about surgery to remove it and then treatment)

Thanks all

  • Sorry to hear about your Mam's cousin. It is indeed a cruel and heartless disease. Try not to worry about your dad's cough. Both Dave and I are well [as far as we know] but both have had coughs which took a while to shift. I think the worry is just part of the landscape now. My friend had breast cancer about 10 years ago but she still worries its come back if she gets anything wrong with her. Lost innocence, I think.

She tries to look at it positively and says increased awareness isnt a bad thing. Head says I agree but heart would go back to pre cancer oblivion any day of the week!

  • Homebird, I am so sorry to hear that you and your husband have had such a tough time. He is very lucky to have you though.

Hopefully, he'll get stronger and better all the time and the memory of the anguish will fade. One of my husband's golf buddies had a hip replacement and dave says the difference is amazing.

Good luck to you and to LD and all loved ones too.xxxx

  • Hi there, just thought I would pop by and see how you are doing.  My husband has his next CT scan on 23rd December, so it's fingers crossed time.  He is getting on fine, however with this bad weather he doesn't go out much as we are both worried about him getting a chest infection. Last month he had his 2nd batch of infusion for the rheumatoid Arthritis and that is going well.  I hope that things are good with you and wish you a merry Christmas and a healthy and happy New Year. Xx

  • Hi Homebird

Lovely to hear from you. Will be thinking of you both on the 23rd and keeping absolutely everything crossed. Weather here is pretty rotten too but we do get out a bit with the dogs. Last year when Dave was having chemo we went absolutely nowhere.

Good to hear that the rheumatoid arthritis treatment is going well-I'm sure that must make a big difference to his spirits.

Thank you so much for your kind wishes and have a great Christmas yourselves and even more importantly a happy and healthy new year.

    Much love always xxx

  • Lovely to hear from you both. My dad had his first 6 month scan in November and I'm so pleased he got the all clear. Another in 6 months and then it will be a year for him. Scanxiety is a real thing - I was so worried!

will be thinking of you on the 23rd.

my dad has started on cbd oil and has really helped with his arthritis (and possibly lungs long term) so could that be worth looking into.

I hope you and your families have a lovely Xmas and new year xxx

  • Hi LD

Great to have such good news. Scanxiety doesnt really go away but Im delighted to hear Dad is so well.

Have a fabulous Christmas-so much better than last year!

All the very best for 2020!

    xxxxx

  • Hey how are you both keeping? How have you been with corona and lockdown?

Dad has struggled mentally so even though he's shielding he's started to come over to see the kids as he was depressed. None of us have been anywhere so hope we are low risk. He had another scan last week as he cancelled the March one due to covid so praying for good news!

hooe you are all keeping well x

  • Hi there, lovely to hear from you and glad that all is well.  Today my husband goes for his blood test and then the CT scan next week.  Like yours he cancelled it once. This will be the first time that we have been anywhere.  It's been a long old slog but just need to feel safe.  We have been well looked after with the shopping etc but it would be nice to get back to a 'normal' life again. Just hope that a vaccine can be found.

I get very edgy waiting for the results of the CT scan and if we get the all clear it will be once a year, so fingers crossed.

Take care of yourself and hope all is okay when dad has his scan. X

  • Great to hear from you. Dave's one year scan was clear and they were very good about telling us over the phone the next day as our cancer nurse was going on holiday the following week. She was quick to stress that in future we would have to go in for result, whether positive or not. We were so relieved as he was convinced it had returned.

Tbh, apart from losing holidays, we've enjoyed lockdown. Village was very quiet and there has been so much wild life. We had most food delivered from village shops and walked with our dogs a few times a day and so had a few socially distanced chats. Plus I was in the garden alot. However, I know we are incredibly lucky and really feel for others who lost loved ones or livelihoods. It must have been dreadful for anyone needing or having treatment.

We still havent been to a supermarket and I am desperate to get my hair done. Needless to say, we wont be rushing to the pub on super-spreading saturday!

    Hope scan brings good news.

  • Glad you are both doing well and fab to hear Daves one year scan was clear.  Any news on your husbands scan yet? Dad goes in next week so I do feel worried as thought it may be over the phone. I'm praying all is well.

we are currently on a family holiday glamping in Devon as we were due to do Disney. I haven't been out since March as working from home (apart from walks)  so it's very weird. My dad has been coming over so I don't want to do anything to put him at risk!

Hope you are all keeping well still x
