I'm a melanoma patient & while I don't have personal knowledge of atypical spitzoid tumours I do know a little about them from other patients. Basically, the second procedure you are having is a Wide Local Excision - a standard surgery for melanoma patients. This is being done because under the NICE guidelines spitz tumours should be treated as if they were melanoma (to be on the safe side). They may send the tissue from your biopsies for a second opinion but meanwhile it sounds like they are treating it as if it was melanoma.
