Decision on Reconstruction

Hello,

Im booked in for a mastectomy and reconstruction. I’m now having second thoughts on the reconstruction...

I have more cons on my list than pro’s - the main pro is self confidence, I can’t decide if it will bother me to the point of affecting my confidence. I’m not one for wearing low cut tops and I don’t consider my boobs to be mega important, but it’s such a big decision and a long wait if I change my mind afterwards ...

Anyone else not bothered with the reconstruction? And did you regret it? I’m 50/50 forvand against, just can’t decide ...

    Hi AWW,

    I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 9 years. First time I had a lumpectomy, followed by Tamoxifen for one year. I then developed another primary in the same breast and had a double mastectomy, followed by 6 years of Letrozole.

    Unfortunately, due to previous non-cancer related surgery, my back and my tummy were not suitable donor sites. As a result , I didn't have reconstruction, but cope fairly well with an assortment of prostheses for various conditions.

    Have you got a date for your surgery yet? I hope that it all goes well.

    Hi Jolamine, 

    Thanks for your kind words, yes a date has been fixed, 15th. I have decided to go with immediate recon using expandable implant.

    I will keep you updated.
