Starting 1 year of chemo tomorrow really afraid

I was diagnosed with a rhabdomyosarcoma earlier this month and have to undergo a year of intensive chemo I am so afraid. I feel like im losing my life to this it feels like a bad dream that i cant wake up from. Im just scared because everything about chemo seems so scary and painfull.

    Hi there ...

    So sorry your going through this .. but you'll get support on here ... I've not had chemo .. but lots have on here.. I'm a breast cancer lass .. so don't know what one you have .. as not up on all the jargon .. but cancer is cancer ... and in that, wer all on the same rollercoaster ride ... so never feel alone... lots of us are right there with you .. holding on tight ... 

    It's always scary waiting for treatment ... and everyone reacts differently .. but hopefully once you start, you'll know what your dealing with .. the unknown is always overwhelming ... a year sounds so long .. yet the 16 months since my masectomy has flown ... try to live in the day, and not think of it as a year .. cut it down to weeks and they turn into months .. that will turn into a year .. 

    All those feelings are normal.. get it all out .. admit it's scary .. and then get a pair of vertual boxing gloves on and get in the ring where wer all trying to kick cancers butt ... and there's always someone here to help you through .. sending you a big hug ... you can do this ... Chrissie

    Hi, I’m currently going through chemo although it’s not as long or intensive as what you’re facing. No wonder you are feeling daunted.

    Just wanted to say that I felt the same heading into chemo, I’d heard nothing but horror stories...but to offer a small grain of comfort  it hasn’t been anywhere near as bad as I expected.

    Of course all chemo regimes are different, mine as breast cancer is totally different.  Also, how people react is highly individual too. You should get a lot of supporting medication for side effects, anti nausea drugs etc. If you’re having any problems though, don’t suffer in silence. There are usually things that can be prescribed or tweaked in your treatment.

    It was the worst experience of my life i had a line fitted into my chest . I had to be given a high dose of chemo i did ok on 3 drugs but the iphosphomide was such a high dose i was sick for days non stop . They said they would try different anti sickness but I dont think i can do this for a year its too much i have never felt this bad im terrified of going back in .

    I’m really sorry to hear this. I’m on a chemo board in another forum and vomiting seems to be a common problem. They can and should change your medication, which can completely transform the experience. I totally get that you don’t want to go back but I hope you’ll give the alternative anti nausea drugs a go xx

    Im just afraid that things wont get better anytime soon i just want to feel normal again . I just feel so ill i dont know how to get better its been 4 days since my chemo and i still feel the same.
