Hoping for people to share experience

I have cancer of the parotid gland and would be grateful if people would share their experiences of head and neck cancer.  Information on radiotherapy, the lock jaw and tooth caries etc. would all be welcome.  How you cope ... or not, what you found best, what worked.. what didn't work:>0  It would all be helpful.

  • Hi thereonthebrightside and welcome to the forum. Hopefully you will find it useful and members will be able to answer your questions and offer support.

My hubby was diagnosed with tonsil scc with lymph node mets in December 2015. He had chemoradiation - 5 cycles of Cistplatin and 30 fractions of VMAT radiitherapy over a 6 week periid monday to friday and a neck dissection.

He has now been in remission for 2.5 years - cancer free and looking forward to the future.

As you may have discovered these cancers are classed as rare compared to breast, prostate, bowel so we are a small friendly community helping each other get through what is a very tough treatment. Feel free to ask any questions you may have and Im sure otger members will be along to offer support too.

    best wishes and good luck

    Emma

  • Hi there,

I too have throat cancer and am currently going through radiotherapy and tomrrow is going into week 5 out of a 6 week treatment plan.

By and large I have been fine and have wonderful support team in hospital and side effects being managed as much as possible. Little problem with my taste buds just now so finding ways to overcome and medication helping other side effects.
Will depend on your treatment plan, but please feel free to ask any particular questions over process or indeed anything and I will happily share and help based upon my own journey along with the help from others here.

As Emma says, small group in this club, but all are very helpful to one another so do feel free to ask away or even just chat about anything.

    keep us posted

    kind regards

    Ian
