Hi all my name is cara I’m 32 years old. It’s hard to write this as I have just been diagnosed today but I just wanted to see if anyone has been through the same thing as it is very rare!
Me and my husband went through the loss of a child due to a fatal foetal abnormality a year and a half ago. This in turn caused me to visit my Dr for a ‘health check’ as we wanted to try again this year however I wanted to be totally sure if this was ever to happen to us again I had made sure I could hand on heart say that it wasn’t my fault!! That saying I am a good weight for my height, I eat healthily bar the occasional weekend take-away, don’t smoke, might have a few drinks at the weekend and go to the gym 2-3 times per week! I look healthy, I feel great!! During a routine scan of my ovaries on ultrasound my GP also got a pelvic scan completed (due to some ongoing IBS problems) , I was asked to stay for a Ct scan as something had showed up. I was then sent for an MRI and told I had a mass on my right adrenal gland quite large in diameter (6cmx7cmx5.5cm) however it was isolated and showing no signs of intrusion and everywhere else was clear! The only worry they had was the size of it! Filled with false hope we thought it was going to be ok, they advised me it needed to come out and pathology would be the only certain way to see if begnin or malignant. I got the tumour out two weeks ago via open surgery as they tried keyhole but it was too near the renal vein to successfully remove it without switching to open! I am recovering well and got the results of pathology today which state it is an adrenal metastasis and kidney cancer cells were found in the tumour however both kidneys did not show anything on CT scan!!!! The tumour has been fully removed. I have been referred to a neurologist which will take 2-3 weeks for an appointment to see what to do and where to go from here! The adrenal surgeon could basically tell me no more as her area of expertise is the adrenal and they took it away with the tumour. She said she was surprised at what came back as they believed it had not come from anywhere and was isolated!! I am a very positive person but I am scared as when you think of a cancer that has metastasised to the adrenal you think of this as a secondary finding not to find this first and then say it’s from somewhere else like the kidney but they didnt see it there so they have removed the secondary but need to sort out the primary!!
Sorry for the long winded rant but I wanted to explain the whole thing!! The waiting is so awful and I’m scared but staying positive as best I can!!
