My experience

OK we all saw the advert blood in your pee well I had exactly that once and once only but it was a lot of blood so being a Sunday I went to a local walk in centre who could not refer me to a hospital but told me to see my Gp the next day I did and was fast tracked to a hospital appointment within 2 weeks for a cytoscopy bladder exam which showed no problem so then booked a CT scan and they found a tumour within the kidney 5cm so met the consultant and straight to the point the kidney must come out ASAP so was given a date within 4 weeks and was admitted on a Thursday a keyhole radical nephrectomy was done and discharged 2 days later minus a kidney the hospital basically gave me a sandwich in a road map I was left to gather and carry my belongings and make my own way out to the car park to be collected by my daughter no assessment as to how I was getting home etc that is the only complaint I had.

  • Hello Surfnutt,

Thank you very much for sharing your story. I will help raise awareness of symptoms like blood in urine to look out for and you certainly did the right thing in going to your GP. It looks like they took things seriously and were able to diagnose you very quickly and efficiently.

I hope you have recovered well from the surgery and I am sorry to hear that you felt a little bit rushed when leaving the hospital. I hope you were able to get home ok and that you got plenty of rest and were looked after well.

Let us know how you get on if you get a chance!

    Best wishes,
