Ovarian Cancer Follow up Care

Hi

I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer stage 1c1  grade 1 in February, but I've been told I can't have any scans for follow up.  I told my consultant that Overcum charity staff said I should have scans every few weeks because the ovarian cyst ruptured during surgery, but I've been told that I agreed to Patient Initiated Follow Up, but I didn't agree to anything.  I wanted to talk about follow up care and the consultant said we have a leaflet for that, and the leaflet said I agreed not to have any follow up.

I'm really worried, what is the normal followup procedure for my type of cancer?  Did your doctor tell you the same thing?

The consultant also said that regular CT scans cause cancer, and that if I had them as often as the charity said I should have them, I would develop cancer long before the end of the year.  But when he first talked about CT scans he said they were safe.

My husband was diagnosed with cancer in 2016, but he didn't have it and he had over 20 CT scans that year, does this mean my husband will develop cancer because he has had too many scans.

I'm really stressed and confused.

  • Welcome to the forum sacredlife although I'm sorry about the rather confusing and conflicting information you've been given.

Hopefully some of our ovarian cancer members will pop by when they can to share their advice and experiences with you, but it may be worth giving our cancer nurses a call about this next week. Their telephone number is 0808 800 4040 and are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

There may be some useful information on the target ovarian cancer website as well.

    Kind regards,
