breast cancer

Hi my  name  is  Sharon  I  was  diagnosed  with  breast  cancer  stage  2 on the 9th of October 2018. I  am  feeling very anxious. And alone as I have nobody close to me that has had breast cancer. I have my operation on the 14th November 2018.to have the lump removed. I look forward to having a comforting chat with everyone. Thankyou Sharon x

  • Hi Sharon welcome to the forum. Sorry to read your post but your get plenty of support on her from ladies who have gone through or going through what you are. Although my lump was benign I still went through the worry of not knowing and an operation to have lumps removed after my core biopsies came back inconclusive. My journey started end of April and operation was in May. I am now fully recovered no farther treatment but having mammogram every year now. Just listen to your body if your tired sleep or rest don’t push yourself to hard. Give yourself plenty of time to recover from the operation as well. I am sure some of the other ladies will pop along soon. If you go on the thread The good and the bad your find some amazing ladies on there who will give you some good advise as they have me.

  • Hi Sharon and welcome to the club with some sexy special ladies! It's a tough time, I can honestly say but you'll get through this. I also had stage 2 and radiation treatment.

Take it one day at a time - do not Google whatever you do. Take that as the best advice anyone has given. Everyone reacts to cancer and treatment differently- our cancer is as unique as our DNA.  If you have questions then write them down so you can ask at your next appt. That will reassure you. Your medical team are best equipped as they have all the info. I know how anxious you must be but remember that you are on the radar and will be treated. The good thing is most cancers are treatable but the emotional, physical and mental rollercoaster is the hard bit.

You will get through this. Us ladies on here will try to answer questions you have by telling you our own experience. I remember when I was diagnosed - it took me 2 weeks just to come to terms with the word "cancer" and that I have it. I lost my mom to secondary breast cancer and my older sister had stage 1 breast cancer and is all clear now. So I've been surrounded by it but like I said we all react differently.

Do things you enjoy and try to keep busy. I know it's easier said than done but stressing yourself and your body won't be helpful to recovery. Take it easy and we are all in it with you.

  • Hi Sharon, welcome to the forum. It’s a surreal time getting diagnosed and I found my emotions were quite up and down. My first line of treatment was surgery too, though strangely it didn’t bother me that much, probably as my mum had been through the same surgery a few years ago.

Now I’m facing chemo though which is a completely different ball game as my mum didn’t have that. I had a week of sheer panic about this. I think the point you’ve raised which is spot on is that it’s fear of the unknown, especially when nobody around you has experienced it.

That’s why I love this forum as we are all going through similar things so there’s no judgement, you can just lay out exactly what you’re thinking and worrying about without trying to sanitise it.

We’re all here with you xx

    Hi Sharoncable,

I am so sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis and your forthcoming operation.  I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer. I had a lumpectomy first time around followed by Tamoxifen. A year later I found a second lump and had a double mastectomy followed by 6 years of Letrozole, so I fully understand your anxiety.

This is always a scary time at this stage of your cancer journey and, most of us find that our emotions are all over the place. We tend to cry  a lot for no particular reason. If you do, just let the tears flow, as it is a great release valve. You will be pleased to hear that our emotions improve once we start treatment.

I sincerely hope that your operation goes well. I shall be thinking of you on 14th November.

Please stay in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Sharon,

I found out the exact same day as you that I also have breast cancer. I had a MRI yesterday and find out my treatment next Wednesday.

What a rollercoaster eh? we will get through this.

  • Hi sharon,

I’m really sorry you’ve joined the club no one wants to be in. You’re currently going through the hardest emotional psychological phase currently - I found it got much easier when I started treatment and had a routine of appointments and an emergency telephone number for a nurse. Macmillan and breast cancer care have excellent call centres and forums- breast cancer care also have an email and text service with nurses and they can match you with ladies who’ve had the exact same diagnosis -and treatment path.

You’re doing so so well, and it’s great that you reached out. Do you have any other treatment lined up after your op? Or do you have to wait for further results and clear margins? We’re all here to support you. If you’re under 45 the younger breast cancer network (secret group) on Facebook is excellent. You can send a message and ask to be added :)

Here’s some of my background story if you want to know :) I’m 30 and I was diagnosed with grade 3, HER2 positive and oestrogen receptor positive invasive ductal breast cancer on 18th May 2018. I had to wait quite a few weeks to find out about the HER2 status. I started neo-adjuvant (before operation) chemotherapy in June, and I’m having number 7 out of 8 tomorrow so I’ve only got 6 weeks of chemo left yeyyy! Hopefully my op will be before Christmas.

the scariest bit is the fear of the unknown, worrying and waiting to find out what treatment, has it responsed, what are the side effects etc.

Chin up, you’ll get through this!

    Claire

  • Thank you Julie for making me feel a lot better. Got my pre op on 6th November. And op on the 14th November. Not to long now will keep you posted

  • Hi Sharon

so sorry you’re on this roller coaster but you’ve definitely done the right thing by coming on here. I was diagnosed maybe 6 weeks ago and I’ve had a mastectomy and node clearance just 2 weeks ago. As people have said it’s the unknown that’s scary - my op went very well and I came home the next day with my drain on place! I was and am still very tired but my wounds have healed very well and apart from now waiting for chemo regime and radiotherapy I feel like I’m getting rid of this horrid thing! My cancer has spread to nodes so it’s not the best case scenario but we are in this together- you’ll be surprised how good it is to talk and share with the lovely people on here - good luck with your surgery - hope it goes well for you x

  •
