Bile Duct Cancer

My wonderful husband Tim was diagnosed with Terminal Bile Duct cancer last Thursday, he was told he has a matter of months.

To say we are devastated is an understatement. He is being very strong, I on the other hand am in pieces. I know I need to find a way to be strong  for him, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Chris,

Thank you for your kind words. I'm so sorry to hear about your wife and my thoughts are with you. If you are able to share what chemotherapy treatment was your wife on? What were the side effects she experienced? I know everyone reacts differently.

I was able to attend my mums appointment with the Oncologist on Wednesday. He let us know that the best treatment for my mum would be to start chemo in 2-3 weeks time (Gemcitabine/Cisplatin) and have 2 weeks on and 1 week off for 6 months. She will have some scans in a couple of months to see if the cancer is shrinking and if all goes well she will be able to have another surgery in November/December 2021. If not, then my mum won't be able to have surgery and her life expectancy decreases. It's very hard to process. My mum is having a rough time as she recently lost her brother and mum within a year. Life is cruel and we are doing our best to stay positive, my mum is the strongest lady I know.

I hope you are having a nice day in the sunshine and hope to hear from you soon.

  • Hi Sarah,

I hope you and your family are well. How is your mum progressing?

I am so sorry to hear about you mum losing her brother and mum recently, everything seems to happen like that. I think my wife was on the same chemo treatment as your mum. So your mum might be having surgery later in the year depending if it shrinks? I know it is such a worry for you and your family but I am sure she is in the right hands.

Whereabouts are you in the country? If you want to pm me it's up to you.

The main thing is for your mum to get the right treatment and get better.

  • Hi Chris,

We have good and bad days - it all gets a bit much. My mum is due to start her 1st chemo cycle this week so we have been spending time together and seeing some family members.

Thank you for your kind words. That's correct, providing it does shrink and to give her liver time to regenerate. It's going to be a long journey. Hopefully it all goes well and she doesn't have too many side effects. What side effects did your late wife experience? We are based in Surrey near Wimbledon.

    I hope you are well!

  • Hi Sarah,

I do hope that your mum will be okay with the chemo. My wife didn't really have too many side effects with it but everyone is different obviously. I think it made her more tired than anything else.

As you said it's a long journey and I hope it all goes well for her, I understand what you are going through.

Please let me know how your mum is getting on and also the rest of your family.

  • Hi Chris,

    I hope you are well.

My mum is at half way point for her chemo and has a scan booked in for next week. She is experiencing side effects from the treatment unfortunately - hair thinning, no taste, fatigue, weight loss and is irritable to name a few. I have been supporting her and making sure she takes all of her medication. Everything in my life is uncertain atm and it's taking its toll. My parents argued a lot before this diagnosis and now it's even worse (I normally leave them to it). Plus my brother hardly visits and I feel like I'm all on my own.

  • Hi Sarah,

Thank you for replying and letting me know how your mum is getting on.

I can understand how stressful it is for your family, but shouldn't your dad be making allowances for how your mum feels. I know he's worried as well but think what it like for your mum.

How are you doing? Is your mum still receiving treatment despite the Covid situation?

Contact me anytime I don't know if I can be of any help. Or you can dm me?

    Take care

  • Hi Chris,

I have sent you a DM btw - thank you for your support.
