Hi Everyone, 

Im hoping that im allowed to post in here it is actually my dad that has been told only yesterday he has bladder cancer, its unfortunatly spread so isnt curable. Were just waiting to see if they are able to give him treatment to give him longer. Were trying to get our heads around things and i know i have to be strong for mum and dad,  its been such a shock as hes never ill and only in his 60s and very active. Can anyone give me any clue to how quick bladder cancer spreads etc. I know none can give us time frames for how long he has left and i appreciate everyone is different i just wasnt sure if it is slow growing or aggresstive. To give me an idea on what to expect and try to prepare myself to be strong for them.

    Sorry to read your dads problem.

    As everybody has different effects & I'm not medicaly trained but I have bladder cancer (plus a few other problems)

    So far I have lost a lot of weight did go off my food but now I'm back to normal eating.

    Mainly NO pain yipeeee.But peeing very often including night time I feel very tired all the time but I put down to my interupted sleep.

    I have never found out if fast or slow it spreads.

    Many thanks for replying, i am sorry to hear you also have bladder cancer. How long have you had it?   Its great news you dont have any pain, and my dad is the same. Infact what youve  said is what my dad is like. We have had an appointment through for mon to discuss things further so that will help. 

    Have you had chemo? Im worried it would make him very ill for little rewards x

    I was presenting to my GP for nearly 3 yrs before refferd to Urogist  dynosis was quick within a few wks.

    I fell & broke my hip a few days before tumur removal was due,due to other problems I was in hospital for 11 wks.

    On being home I received 3 appointment all cancled by hospital for removal,on receiving 4th appointment I had made up my mind to refuse treatment (due to other reasons) that was over a year ago now.

    I live alone.

    But I cannot help you as to effects of chemo as I refused treatment to me quality of life cames first.

    Welcome to our forum.

    I am sorry that I cannot answer your question either. I am a breast cancer lady and know little about bladder cancer. If you are going back to discuss things with his consultant on Monday, why not write down a list of questions for his consultant?

    He is in the best position to know how aggressive your dad's type of bladder cancer is. He also has your dad's medical history and knows how fit he is to cope with chemo. Your last sentence in your post is a very pertinent one. There are many different types of chemo, some are easier to cope with than others, so it is maybe a case of discussing exactly which one or combination he is planning to use and how bad he expects the side-effects to be.

    I hope that you can find a chemo which suits him and leaves him with more quality time.
