Breast cancer

Hi just been diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in left breast, and DCIS in right breast now awaiting results of MRI.  I feel like I'm watching someone else's life !! I'm in limbo , no one has given me any  idea of what treatment they are going to give me the waiting is destroying me .

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

    I am so sorry to hear about how you're feeling, and, having had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 8 years, I can emphatise with you.

    Have you been told how long it will take to get your MRI results back? It all feels a bit surreal when you are first diagnosed and, you add fear of the unknown on top of all this unwelcome news that you've already been given. The sad thing is that your consultant is not likely to know what treatment s/he will consider until you have the results of all of your tests back. After that, a meeting of all the multidisciplinary team will be held (MDT meeting). Here your consultant will discuss your treatment plan and have a care plan in place by the time you return for your results.

    I know that the wait seems interminable, but there is a lot going on behind the scenes, so you just have to be patient. Most of us here would agree that the wait is so scary, causing our emotions to be all over the place too.

    I sincerely hope that you hear soon and can move forward to treatment. I have had 1 lumpectomy and a double mastectomy and am glad to help in any way I can.

    Hi Susan. Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I have stage 2 breast cancer in right breast and I agree that the waiting is the hardest part. It's fear of the unknown and to me the "c" word took 2 weeks to get into my head. Best thing is you're on the radar and will be treated. 

    As Jolamine said the results take time as the meducal team need all the information to be able to decide on the best treatment for you and that they have all areas covered so they are certain they get it all.

    Any waiting at any stage of all this is agonising and keeping busy and all that helps but it's always at the back of the mind. What I can suggest is please do not Google - we aren't medically qualified and don't have all the info to be able to be certain of any thing. Think of questions you want to ask and write them down so you go in prepared when you go to see your dr. I had to write down everything including details of the type of cancer I had as it's so overwhelming so I felt more in control the more information I had so I understood everything about my cancer.

    Please do keep us posted and if you need to rant or chat there are alot of us on here who can help to support. Take it easy and take it one day at a time.
