Hi Kis,
Welcome to the forum - so sorry you have to join us but I hope you find the help, information and support you need.
Numb is probably the most common reaction to a diagnosis, which can feel weird when everyone around you seems devastated and upset about the news. Many newly diagnosed cancer patients often find themselves comforting other people who appear to be more badly affected.
People often misinterpret other people's numbness for bravery. We look OK on the outside but the numbness is often needed to help us make the right decisions, face the treatment and the awful uncertainty of what the future may hold.
Good luck!
Dave
Hi and welcome.
Numbness in my experience is a coping mechanism which as Davek says helps our brains cope with decision making and treatment. I think it is common. I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer in April this year and have just finished treatment. Most of the last six months I’ve felt detached and as if its all happening to someone else. Give yourself time to digest what you’ve been told. Do you know what treatment you will need and do you have an appointment to discuss it? Again in my experience things seem to settle down once you know what will happen next..
I hope everything moves on soon and goes well.. I’m sending a virtual squeeze from my hand to yours.
