Mucinous breast Cancer

Hello,

So I went for my results meeting today, even though I found out while on holiday by mistake. 

I am still very upset but it was a less on a blow today as I knew the outcome. Now I am sure my Doctor said it was a common cancer and I am sure she said Mucinous breast cancer, but googling it looks like it’s a rare cancer? She also mentioned a 2 out 3 and it was negavtive not positive . I should of asked her to write it down silly me! 

Is there a more common type with a similar name? I also remember her saying the cells are surround by mucus.

If anyone could shed any light if I am correct or I’ve missed heard her.

    Hi Kay,

    Believe it or not, this sounds like good news. Mucinous cancer is a rare form of cancer which only affects about 1% of people. It is one of the less-aggressive forms of breast cancer where the cells lie in pools of mucous.

    Has your consultant discussed the staging of your cancer, surgery or treatment? I have mucinous cancer myself and there are a few others here who also have it.

    Next time you see your consultant ask her to write down all she knows about your cancer.  I always bring my hubby with me to my appointments. I also draw up a list of questions for my surgeon before each consultation.

    When we go to the hospital I give my hubby a duplicate copy of my questions. While I am asking my surgeon  the questions, my hubby writes down the answers. This is not unusual, your consultant won't bat an eyelid at this. We only remember a small proportion of the conversation by the time we leave the hospital gates, so this ensures that you won't have the confusion that you have today.

    Hi Kay, I’m undergoing treatment for Mucinous breast cancer. It’s a rare type as you say but I also remember hearing the word “common” used during my diagnosis, which puzzled me. I think they were actually referring to the fact it was oestrogen receptor positive, which most breast cancers are.

    You should get a letter from the hospital summarising the discussion and results from your meeting so I wouldn’t worry if you have forgotten bits. As jolamine says it helps to draw up a list of questions for your next appointment and get someone else to take notes.

    Thanks Ladies, 

    Super confusing as she kept saying it’s common and the good news it’s negavtive that is a good thing. I need surgery and hormone therapy, maybe a bit of chemo or radiation?* Correct spelling unsure? 

    I actually couldn’t speak and it was going in one ear and going out the other. But next hurdle to see if it’s in my lymph glands, biopsy tomorrow. 

    And excuse my bad language I am actually *** myself it has, my throats, my back, my neck, my foot, everything is sore stress or related. 

    Managed to go out for my husbands 40th tonight and all driven by his Dad who survived stage 4 throat cancer. he is an absolute legend xx

    The lymph nodes are less likely to be involved in mucinous cancer. I hope that you enjoyed your night out with your hubby tonight
