BREAST CANCER

I have been diagnosed with breast cancer within the last 10 days or so. Very confused. Have been a breast fibroadenodal sufferer for quite a few years, and when I expressed my fears of breast cancer to my GPs, they advised me that unless my immediate family had been diagnosed with breast cancer, then my chances of having it were almost nil. Even having told them that my younger sister had died from a very aggressive cancer that had probably started as a tumour in her brain. Then my Mum died of very aggressive pancreatic cancer within weeks of diagnosis. She never ever drank alcohol, never smoked cigarettes , nor had she eaten red meat(was allergic to red meat protein), and these things are usually the causes of pancreatic cancer.  And now me. Waiting for a call to advise me of surgery date.

  • Hi Ronita,

I noticed you hadn't had a reply yet so I just wanted to stop by and welcome you to the forum.

I'm sorry to read about your diagnosis and for the impact that cancer has had on your family Ronita but I want you to know that you are not alone on this journey as many of our members have found themselves in similar situations and hopefully you'll hear from them soon.

I know you said you're confused about your diagnosis so make sure your team answer any questions you have playing on your mind so you can get more clarity on your situation. Our cancer nurses are just a phone call away if you'd like to have a quick chat with them about this as well. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040.

I hope you don't have to wait too long for that call Ronita and that your surgery goes well when the time comes.

    All the best,
