borderline ovarian tumor

hi i have an operation on Tuesday for removal of my ovary and fallopian tube, what i don't understand is that on cancer research UK page it says these tumors are not cancer but on a post on here a nurse commented and said they were, I'm really angry because I've been told these aren't cancer and have been living life thinking that its like pre cancerous cells and my consultant said they aren't cancer and now one of the nurses are saying they are, i want to know where i stand as i feel really betrayed if these are cancer.

many thanks

  • Hello Anisha

Thank you for letting us know, we have taken down the thread on the other part of our forum which described them as cancer. I hope that helps to reassure you.

    Thank you again

  • Borderline ovarian tumours are not always invasive  or aggressive but they are  actually cancer just grade zero, slow growing with excellent prognosis. Most of the women who have a diagnosis like myself actually prefer them to be called borderline ovarian cancer  or cancer of low malignant potential as many ladies have recurrences which can go on to Low grade. With lifetime follow up and multiple surgeries and loss of fertility for many the idea of ore cancerous cells like a Pap smear totally minimises women’s experiences.
