Husband diagnosed with tumour on pancreas

My husband was diagnosed with a gallstone in his bile duct, now Drs now say he has a tumour on his pancreas.  We have both been through cancer before (prostrate and breast) and survived, but feel very worried about his prognosis.  Dr says it is operable, but so very worried.  He's still in hospital, I'm home alone our son is getting married in 2 weeks.  Help!!

  • Hi Julie

Good to hear your husband is out of ICU. That shows some improvement. I know when we hear something to do with the heart, like the word cancer, we panic. But they must be happy with his progress.

Im glad some of my ideas gave food for thought. I’m sure if you speak to the hotel, they will at least allow you to use their WiFi as it is special circumstance. It’s worth a phone call to ask. Also I thought that maybe if someone has a cellular iPad that is it has it’s own WiFi then with the permission of the person carrying out the service someone could Facetine or Skype your husband with the service live, it’s worth looking into. I know I sound as if I know what I’m talking about as well but not really. Just been consulting with my husband who worked in IT for forty years. I know it’s not long to the wedding but a shop like currys or Apple might be able to advise you what could be done or maybe you have a relative or friend in the know. Have you got a local Apple shop they are the best people to help you out, I think.

Try and have a restful evening after your hospital visit. I know that is sometimes difficult. My husband was in hospital three times with pneumonia last year. Sometimes it’s difficult not to be thinking of them when you are at home. I’ve sent you a friend request if you’d like to talk more privately and sometimes it’s easier for me to pick up those messages.

    Hand squeeze and hug sent.

  • Dear Julie, it's Carol (previous Caz07).  I've had to post under a different name and suddenly realised that you may not be aware of this.  Anyway we have been worried about you and your family, so I'm now Dor06 if you want to still stay in touch.  Love Carol x

  • Hi Carol!

I had been trying to get back on here after a bit of a break, and couldn't so thanks for contacting me.  Thanks for thinking about us.  Please let me know how you and the others are doing.

Dave had a scan on Christmas Eve and the results still showed some inflammation from the pancreatitis, which would make the operation unsafe.  The good news was that the tumour is very small and hasn't grown since September.  To try make sure it doesn't, he's just started a 3 month course of chemo, first round was last Wednesday.  He was fine for the first few days but has had terrible diarrhoea and stomach cramps since then.  Not getting much sleep either.  I hope to God he's not going to be like this continually for the next 3 months.  I'm sure he has lost all the weight he put on since leaving hospital.  He's trying hard but has lost interest in practically everything, he feels so poorly.   Fingers crossed he might feel a bit better tomorrow...

How is Norman doing?  How are you doing and Sue and Annie?  I have missed you all and hope you are doing ok.  How come you have had to post under a new name?

I'm ok I think.  Just keeping busy and trying not to think too much ahead.

    love to everyone.

    Julie xxx
