I went through several misdiagnosises I begged my gp to refer me under the two week rule but he said he couldn’t because I did not have cancer. An mri on my spine showed a 10cm mass the radiographer sent a letter to my Gp to immediately look into this. The Gp missed this on the letter. When I pointed it out after receiving a copy she forgot to refer me for further tests meanwhile I lost 8 months ended up being catheterised as the tumour was blocking my urethra but still no referral. I was at my wits end the pain I suffered was unreal I attended A&E 3x a week with severe pain but they kept sending me home.
I then rang PALS and made a formal complaint and they promised to look into it but in the meantime I was sent to a catheter nurse as I wasn’t shown how to use this either and had no replacement bags. The lovely nurse pulled up my MRI and said this is odd I’m getting my colleague who was the head of Gynea. I was in surgery within 8 hours...my head could not keep up. I had an open total hysterectomy and removal of the tumour that weighed 900 grams by this time. My spine has been damaged in the process as it was so large and lodged against my spine I was told it was bigger than a babies head and was stuck in my pelvis.
The surgeon was amazing, he told me there was a 0.005 % chance it could be cancerous so I thought nothing of it. On my six week check I was given the verdict of having soft tissue sarcoma, I was shocked and I was alone I didn’t think I would hear this so went alone.
I have now got problems with my left leg I am left incontinent and I am really upset. I go for checks every three months to catch the spreading of the cancer should it spread. I am under their care for 10 years and only if it doesn’t spread will I be signed off then.
I want doctors to stop saying it’s only a fibroid as that’s what I kept getting there is a chance it is cancer as seen in my case I should have had a biopsy I need to mention I did see a specialist in a private hospital who also said it’s just a fibroid and I needed to go and see my GP for referral to the NHS it has been a crazy year! Major surgery! Spinal damage and now a cancer patient I do not know what to do. I really feel let down also to mention my husband has severe MS and is wheelchair bound. He only has me.
