Waiting game

Hi everyone

My husband was diagnosed with advanced kidney cancer nearly 5 weeks ago now and we still haven't seen a specialist is this normal?

I am so worried about how advanced it is as we have seen a consultant who warned us it was bad, 2 days later my husband was rushed to hospital with blood clots in his lungs and leg, his pain is getting worse each day and reading between the lines from the doctors in hospital and his gp it's not good. My husband has lost nearly 5 stone in past 2 months and has has is education increased weekly for pain buts still no answers!!!

We have 4 children together and my son has autism so is confused why mummy and daddy aren't working anymore and why daddy is so sick!

I just want answers and feel that we aren't getting any! Apparently the specialists have had 2 meetings  far about my husband's case yet haven't even met any of them yet!

Is this normal, am I being paranoid

I just want whatever time we have to make it special and each day count but they are taking away our days

Please can someone help me understand!!!

  • Welcome to the forum Tracy33 although I'm sorry to read about your husband's diagnosis and how long you're having to wait to see a specialist.

If you're worried about this then maybe you could get in touch with your husband's doctor or medical team to let them know your concerns and find out how long it may be until you see someone. Our cancer nurses are just a phone call away if you'd like to chat with them about this. You can call them for free on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Hopefully you'll get some advice from other members who have the same diagnosis as your husband or who have been in a similar situation too.

I can't begin to imagine how tough and frustrating this must be for all of you but I'll have my fingers crossed you'll get some answers soon.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi,

I'm really sorry about your husbnds diagnosis, my husband is the same but waiting time was long. From the first scan to seeing the oncologist was three months. Apparently for secondaries that is a normal amount of time to wait...albeit agonising for us. I hope he sees someone soon, my husband started treatment this week, side affects kicking in now but hopefully things will settle down.

Keep in touch and good luck to you both
