Kidney Cancer

My husband had a partial kidney removal June 2017. He has now been told (yesterday) it has spread to both his lungs and is going to undergo Sunitinib treatment. He has a history of heart disease and was awaiting a valve replacement which I am presuming will not go ahead.  The side affects from this treatment can be quite severe. Has anyone any experience of this please?

  • Welcome to Cancer Char helenmdo although I'm really sorry you've just found out that your husband's kidney cancer has spread to his lungs.

I know you're hoping to hear from others who have experience of this treatment so I've had a quick look around the forum and found [@Kelsa]‍ whose mum started this in April this year. They haven't been on the forum since but hopefully they'll come back to let you know how their mum got on now I've mentioned them in this post. [@Mollymay]‍'s mum also took this but had to stop as she had cardiac problems and [@Eivor]‍ and [@Reddragondfw]‍ had to stop as the treatment didn't agree with them.

I know that's probably not what you were hoping to hear but I thought I'd put you in touch in case you wanted to find out more about the side effects they experienced. If you'd like to have a general chat with others about kidney cancer you can do so on this recent discussion just here.

We have some information about the side effects of this treatment on our website but if you have any other questions or would just like to chat to someone about this then do give our cancer nurses a call next week. You can contact them on 0808 800 4040 and their lines will be open Tuesday - Friday (closed on Monday due to the bank holiday) between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope this helps Helenmdo and wish your husband all the best when he begins this treatment.

    Best wishes to you both,
