Tonsil cancer newly diagnosed

Hello

My partner has recently been diagnosed with tonsil cancer. Following a CT scan the consultant has confirmed that he cannot have surgery as it is too invasive and therefore the treatment plan is radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

The CT scan showed a 4mm nodule on his lung which at this point is indeterminable and will be monitored with scans.

Apparently the tonsil cancer is curable but I'm finding it super hard to focus on that.

The oncology appointment is next week.

We are both terrified about the next six months.

Does anyone have any experience of this type of cancer and treatment that they could share with me please? My head is so full of thoughts.

Thank you.

  • Hi Misty and welcome to the forum - you have come to the right place for support and a place to let off steam. There are many members on here who are willing to reach out and help you along the journey. This is the hardest time - waiting to find out about treatment and begin the process but hang in there.

My husband was diagnosed with SCC tonsils with lymph node mets in Dec 2015 - it was a real shock to us both and felt as tbough our world had fallen apart but here we are - he had a tonsillectomy, 5 cycles of Cistplatin chemotherapy and 30 fractions of VMAT radiotherapy to right and left neck lymph nodes over 6 weeks and a neck dissection- 2 years in remission and cancer free.

There is hope and light at the end of the tunnel. Keep talking to each other and share your fears as team work and a positive outlook certainly helps you through.

Im sure others going through this at the moment will be along to offer their support as well. We’re here to help if you need us.

Sending best wishes and positivity to you and your partner
