Help... where do I find best places for treatment?

Hi.. so my amazing sister has just been diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. We all live in Lincolnshire which has one of the worst results for cancer in England. Where do we find the best doctors/ places for treatment to choose the care she urgently needs? She needs a lumpectomy, radiotherapy and probably chemo.

  • Hi there ..

I had a grade  3 her 2 neg oestrogen positive lump diagnosed last year .. I came on here because I was as scared as you at that time ... a lovely lady who has had 2 mastectomy's guided me through .. she's been on here years ... once I got my head around it, l was able to get a pair of well used boxing gloves, put them on, and get in the ring to try to kick cancers butt ..

I had my mastectomy last July ... and because of health issues didn't have the radiotherapy offered .. but I am on tamoxifen for the foreseeable future ... the op was the least of it all, though the wait for everything to start was scary ...and the worst part for me ..

There's lots of other cancer lasses on here, that have joined us here .. and though I touch wood, wer all still here to tell others about our journey with it ... being positive, isn't a guarantee but oh my, it gives us the strength to face this crule cancer ...

I have been really pleased with my oncology team .. at first it feels never ending waiting for things, but they so try now to take a bit of time to get everything right, as every cancer is a tad different .. and lots of oncology staff talk about every case and discuss the best way forward .. and here I am chatting to you 13 months down the line, when I was just praying for a few weeks ... and I'm doing really well ..

Breast cancer has come a long way .. and l hope the other lasses pick this up, to give you the knowledge that there are good outcomes ..  Chrissie x

  • Hi,

Have you visited the CRUK local information web page? This gives up to date cancer statistics for any local area in England. www.cancerresearchuk.org/.../local-cancer-statistics. NHS reputations tend to be out of date, when things go wrong somewhere efforts are made to put them right but it can take years for an areas reputation to improve.

I had a friend who lived in your area - she was eventually referred to the Royal Marsden in London, but she had much of her treatment in Lincolnshire.

    I hope this helps
    Dave
