Grandadas recent diagnosis

My 92 yr old Grandad has revently had the devastating news he has cancerous stomach ulcers.

The consultant has told us that they will not be investigating. So our family don't know anything about what stage, how long life expectancy is. More importantly his GP has said the warfarin he is taking could cause complications but can't advuse what is best .

My Nan and whole family can't understand why we aren't being told anything. Is this normal for somebody of his age?

I'm literally in pieces and my heart is breaking for my Nan because she doesn't know what to expect.

  • Welcome to the forum Weerhi although I'm really sorry that your grandad has cancerous stomach ulcers.

Did the consultant explain why they would not be investigating? If not, it may be a good idea for your nan - if she has your grandad's permission - to get in touch with them to find out and ask any other questions she'd like answered. Maybe you could go with her to make a note of everything that is said and keep track of what is going on.

Our cancer nurses have a number you can call if you'd like to chat with them about this. You can call them for free on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m so do get in touch if you think this may help.

I hope you're able to get some answers soon Weerhi.

    Kind regards,
