Waiting for the results

Hi, 3 weeks ago today I had a biopsy on a mole on my left breast. They thought they should test the mole as it was oddly coloured and had split into 4 smaller moles. They performed a biopsy to see if it is cancerous mole on the 17th of July 2018 and I’m still waiting for my results. I was never told how long the wait would be for my results or how I would get them so I decided to look up online how long the wait should be and it keeps saying 3-4 days which worries me but as I read your comments many are saying 6-8 weeks so can maybe someone help me with knowing the amount of  time I’ll be waiting for the results and how I’ll receive them. Thanks x

  • Hi rose ...

If I were you I'd phone G P surgery and tell them what you've said here ... they should either chance them up, or give you a time frame for results, tell them it's making you feel anxious  ... fingers crossed for you ... Chrissie  x

    Hi Rosexox,

I have had two bouts of cancer and a few false alarms. In each case I had the results within a week. Different cancers take longer to process. I'm not sure how long it may take if skin cancer is expected, but I am sure that others may come along to help you out if this is the case.

Why not contact the nurses on this site and ask for their advice? You can contact them by freephone on 0808 800 4040. You could also try to contact your consultant's secretary and ask her, just in case you've been lost in the system.  Your consultant will usually hold an MDT meeting (multi disciplinary  team) once your results come through. They usually hold these meetings weekly and discuss the best way forward for anyone who has a positive result. This means that s/he knows what way to treat you when s/he gives you your results.

You will usually be given a phone call asking you to come in once everything is in place. It is often best to ask about your next appointment before you leave. That way you are not left hanging. Some consultants will give you the results over the phone, but the majority like to give them face to face.

Please let us know how you get on and remember that we are always here for you.

Here's hoping that it is good news when you do get it.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you so much for your support! ️

  • Thank you for the help, I'm going to see if my results have been lost in the system tomorrow. I'll post if anything urgent happens! ️

  • Hello Rosexox,

my husband had a biopsy on a mole we were told four weeks. He received a letter four weeks after the biopsy with an appointment  and a telephone call to confirm he would attend the appointment. The waiting is probably the worste part. Give them a ring they will understand your anxious.

    fingers crossed xx

  • Thank you so much, if your husbands appointment has not passed yet, fingers crossed for good results ️
