Diagnosed this week

After waiting for my biopsy results the call came this week to say I have endometrial cancer.

I have an MRI booked on Tuesday and consultant appt on Wednesday to discuss next steps.

im trying to take each day at a time but keep reading about grades and stages.

is there anyone who can explain what the grades and stages mean for endometrial cancer?

Thanks

  • Hi and welcone

Sorry I missed your previous posts. I’m mid treatment for endometrial cancer. I was originally diagnose with grade 1 Stage 1b. Grades are about the cancer cells and how they look- grade one is the lowest grade and the cells look almost normal, Stage is about how far the cancer has spread. Stage 1 means it’s contained in the womb only or in womb and surrounding muscle. I’m not sure about other stages but if you search this website it explains it really well. Grades are determined through biopsy and stage usually with an MRI scan. I had a keyhole total hysterectomy on May 14th and then everything was sent off to histology. They then upgraded the cancer to grade 3 but still stage 1b which meant I would need further treatment. I had the pelvic lymph glands removed on 23rd July which have been sent for testing, Further treatment will depend on the results. It seems that there are a number of ways to treat endometrial cancer depending on grade, stage, your age and general health. Only your consultant can tell you your specific treatment once he has all the information. If you would like to ask anything else please send a friend request and I will get back to you. Finally I hope everything goes well next week.

  • Hi Helen,

I just wanted to stop by to share the information we have on our website that explains what the stages and grades for endometrial cancer mean. Hopefully it will make things easier to understand but if you have any further questions do give our cancer nurses a call next week on 0808 800 4040. Their lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they'll do all they can to help.

I'm also including a link to the discussion we have in our help using the forum section which explains all you need to know about private messaging and friend requests.

    I hope this helps :)

    Kind regards,
