Secondary stage four lung cancer

Hi. 

I guess I never thought I'd ever go on a forum but here it goes. 

 

My mum was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer a few weeks ago which had spread into the lymph node. We were all really hopeful as they said its curable and she can start with chemo. She had a CT scan and a bone scan. The bone scan came up clear. 

Unfortunately this morning we found out that it's spread to the lungs and its stage four. I didn't know what questions to ask. They are not going to go ahead with chemo or surgery now. They are going to give her a drug just to control it all for as long as possible. 

 

Is there anyone who is going through this? Or is there anybody who knows of someone who is going through the same thing. 

 

What treatment are you/they having? How long into the treatment are you/they? 

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat MaddyP although I'm really sorry to read that your mum's breast cancer had spread to her lungs and it's stage four.

    I know you're wanting to chat with others who are, or have been, in a similar situation with their mum's so I just wanted to put you in touch with [@Claireemily6]‍ and [@srennie]‍ and now I've mentioned them in this post they will hopefully be along soon to share their experiences with you.

    I’m sorry to hear about your mum and feel your pain. 

    My mum recieved her diagnosis this morning stage 4 secondary lung cancer shes beentold she is to frail for chemo it’s heart breaking.

    The consultant discussed a target treatment but didn’t think it would be suitable. 

    We are being referred to the palliative team. I don’t know what to expect and want to help.

    Hi maddyp I'm so sorry to hear what your going through, my mum had throat cancer 3 years ago which she had the all clear from, it come back in her lungs and also back to the throat,  we were told there was nothing they could do for her and we were put through to the palliative care team which were fab , sadly my mum passed away in September .

    You should have a cancer nurse which you can call at any time to ask any questions, when your told such news it takes a while to sink in, give them a ring they will answer any questions you have sweetheart, if you want to chat more I'm more than happy to chat with you xx
