Inoperable pancreatic cancer treatment

Hi everyone

My Dad has recently been diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer. We know that it has soread to nearby organs and also lymph nodes. The doctors / consultants have determined that there is no option for surgery. I’m wondering if anyone else has been found themselves in similar circumstances but an operation was offered.

we are going through the second opinion process as I type this message and he is also due to start folfirinox chmotherapy in 2 weeks time.

My my dad was very fit and healthy a couple of weeks before the jaundice set in and this was diagnosed. He has always ran marathons and maintained a good lifestyle. He is 58.

Thank you everyone

Mark

  • Hello Mark and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat

I am sorry to hear that your dad has been diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer and that surgery has been ruled out as an option.  It must be a great shock to you and your family. I hope you will hear from others here who have also had a similar diagnosis or who have been in a similar situation as your dad.

I think it is a good idea to get a second opinion - let us know what they said and whether you are given the same advice.

I hope the chemotherapy treatment goes well. We have some information on Folfirinox on our website if you want to read more about it. Our nurses are also a free phone call away and you can ring them anytime you need to talk on this free number 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,
